Darlene Popovic
Keeping the Faith
Darlene Popovic is a woman of many talents – comedienne, actress and singer. Dar has performed one-woman shows in San Francisco, New York, Royal Albert Hall in the UK, Lyceum Theatre in San Diego, in Anchorage Alaska and places in between. She would have liked to have conquered (performed in) the land of her ancestors, Yugoslavia, but it's too late, they've conquered themselves.
One of Dar’s specialties is playing multiple roles:
in John Stark’s Mama Parmigiana, she played 5 roles; in the SF production of Paul Rudnick's Jeffrey she played the entire female cast (7 roles in all) at Theatre on the Square and the Cohoes Music Hall in Upstate New York; in Absolutely San Francisco, she played 6 different characters; and in 42nd Street Moon's Little Me, she played 3 roles - one of which was her first “trouser” role as Bernie Buchsbaum. That led to being cast as the evil scientist Dr. Agnes Sedgwick in 42nd Street Moon's production of It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman - a role typically played by a male.
Last fall she appeared in 42nd Street Moon’s production of Noel Coward’s
Sail Away. Most recently she appeared in TheatreWorks production of Rags.
